RE: How to spend your rebate check

Thanks msmith1199. Your tax dollars are going to buy me a new garage door. From now on lets just cut out the middle man and you could just send the checks directly to me. :) Bill

RE: Anybody Canceling Trips Because Of Fuel Prices?

Yes we have changed our plans, not canceling though. Instead of going to one of our favorite campgrounds in Oregon we decided to spend the gas money and go somewhere we haven't been before. Still in Oregon though. Remainder of year will be spent as years past, forest service campgrounds or boondocking. We might slip a trip in Oct., but that's yet to be seen. Bill

RE: if you inherited a million dollars......

Retire and travel as planned, just next week instead of 6 years from now. But instead of workcamping we would likely do the volunteer thing. And to those looking for a hand-out, good luck finding us. :) Bill

RE: Okay -- American Idol

From the looks of the expression on Carly's face, it left me wondering if she didn't ask to leave. She was all smiles about it and wasn't even shocked at all. By the looks of it Jason and Brooke were more shocked and in disbelief at not being the bottom 2. Jason had even stated that he didn't want to sing it again, and this was before he and Carly were told which one of them was in the bottom 2. Or maybe I am just reading to much into it. At this point is doesn't really matter who stays or goes since the top 10 are given recording contracts and go on the tour and earn $250 grand a piece for it. (at least that's the amount I read somewhere) Bill

RE: Fuel Prices: What I can do

It's my money, it's my gas tank, it's my right to complain about how much of my money goes in the gas tank.

RE: Okay -- American Idol

Syesha I believe found her element. Maybe she should be looking for a career on broadway. Thought she was the best she had been all year and possibly the best of the night. Jason just plain bombed. Poor song choice and poor singing to go with it. Figured Jason to be a goner until... Brooke forgot her words. Just way to deep into the competition to forget your words. I think it may be bye bye Brooke. I think Jason should send her some Thank-you flowers. She did sing it ok when she got around to singing. David A. just continues to bore me. Tonight was no exception. Lucky for him the bubble gum chewers seem to like him for some reason. Kids like a singing zombie. Carly did a great job with the song choice and singing. Very good performance. David C., I was sure this would not be a good week for him, but he proved me wrong. I thought he did very well with the song choice and singing. Bottom 3? Definately Jason and Brooke but who for third? Hard pick, but for me it would be David A. Brooke should be leaving... Bill

RE: Stupidest thing you’ve done while RVing

Hi Folks, I guess I was way to excited as I did the Ben Johnson bolt down the steps with a can of beer in each hand. With great speed I whipped around the corner, vaulted over the dog, over the cooler and was about 3 steps closer to my beckoning camp chair when to my horror, my right foot (the one being used at that moment for propulsion) stepped on a round stick that my kid was playing with earlier. I spun out launching myself into the Coleman and about 3 quarters of the way over the portable camp table cracking my knees on the propane tank in the process. When my eyes began to refocus, I found myself in a twisted pile of camping gear with my wife looking down at me shaking her head with cell in hand ready to dial the last #1 in 911. Fortunately the camp gear was ok and I escaped with only minor injuries. Any others But did the beer survive? You didn't spill any or bruise it did you? My boo-boo, first trailer was inherited. Didn't know squat. Backed it into the site, unhooked it and proceeded to level it with the 4 stabilizer jacks. Do you realized they will not lift one side of a 20 travel trailer to level without bending? I didn't 13+ years ago...but no beer was hurt in the process! Bill

RE: Okay -- American Idol

I am bored with David A. He has a good voice and by the looks of it may make a very good gospel singer. Syesha is nothing special and tries to sing songs her voice can't do. She actually should have left last night. Carly could be very good if she would just relax and let it happen. David C. could win this but likely would be better off coming in second or third. He would have more freedom to do his own thing that way. Jason is a very good folk singer. Brooke is starting to bore me also. And Kristy Lee will have likely have a future in country music. She was improving each week. Bill

RE: Rust remover for water heater plug hole?

Go to someplace like harbor freight where you can get really cheep tools and buy a 3/4 inch pipe tap. Run it in until it starts to cut threads and remove. Done. I chose not to use chemicals to clean and went this route with a previous 5'r I owned. Worked very well. Bill

RE: It's a sad day

I am not there yet, but closing in. Have considered downgrading to a smaller trailer, but I just got this one set up the way I want it. Our trips will continue as is for now, mostly localized within 45 miles. We are blessed with oodles of forest service campgrounds in this area within a short drive. Although those overnight fees have been increasing each year. Still haven't made that first trip out yet. Likely be to a local state park since all the forest service campgrounds are still snowed in. To those now cashing it in, keep in touch and let us know how things work out and I hope downsizing is the answer. Many on here are not far that away removed from your positions. Bill

Should not be a problem until they disappear I painted mine black so they aren't as noticeable. I also haven't seen anyplace to put a lock. Bill

RE: 5th Wheel Leveling Questions

Actually I have been considering getting one of those. Simply because some of the places I get into, once I get the it leveled side to side and drop the landing gear they are not always even and one will hit the boards before the other. I don't know, but I feel this is putting an unnecessary twist to the frame. JMO Maybe someone else could chime in... Bill

RE: How does your dealer handle warranty issues?

Warranty issues were never an issue. Dealer was glad to get it taken care of, as was Holiday Rambler. I was even able to get one minor issue fixed under warranty 6 months after the trailer was out of warranty. Holiday Rambler and my dealer were great to work with. Bill

RE: Okay -- American Idol

I think it will be between David Cook and Carly. Like was mentioned earlier, and what I think Simon was referring too, she needs to wear long sleeves. I think the tatoo is distracting attention from her singing. Haven't been a fan of Micheals, I don't know why, his voice just doesn't do it for me dog. Was an early fan of David A, but he essentially does the same thing week after week. Getting boring and his cutesy act is getting old too. We think he found his niche Tuesday night, he could make a living singing gospel music. Unforetunately, to many like him so he will hang in there. Brooke got a wake up call and I hope she heeds it. Brooke, Jason and Syesha are just filler at this point and will be leaving in the next 4 weeks. Kristy will likely leave us in the next week or two. Luckily for her, she can sing country. She will get a recording contract somewhere if she hasn't already been approached. One thing I have noticed is that the many of the country singers on the show are still singing today. How many idol rock singers do you hear on the radio? One doesn't need to win to win. Bill

RE: When did other than boondocking become the default setting?

I'll admit when we first started camping in a trailer(21' fifth wheel)we never gave any consideration to boondocking or dry camping. Also always had to travel long distances from home and stay at private campgrounds or state parks. Have to admit that I did prefer the state parks. That was 13+ years ago. About 8 years ago we started staying at places closer to home for weekend get aways, but mostly at state parks or private parks (by then we had a 26' fifth). Then we progressed to forest service campgrounds. This made us make a whole adjustment to spending a weekend. First we had to learn to conserve water and the batteries. (pre genny days) When we first started dry camping at the local forest service campgrounds (we are blessed with many of them within and hours drive) we could come in at anytime and there would be plenty of spaces. I have noticed in the past few years that there are more and more folks vyeing for those few spaces. It got to the point that we would have to go up on Thursday nights, set up the trailer and spend the night and commute to work the next day. This brings us to today, now have a 29' (actually 31.5) fifth wheel and just stared boondocking last year. In the past few years over 90% of our camping is dry camping. Only stay in a campground when we are using it as a basecamp for sightseeing like when we went to Glacier NP a few years ago. Plus normally our first outing of the year is to a local state park so we can make sure all the systems are working correctly. Currently researching more boondocking sites and other low cost (BLM, COE cmping)on mapping software and shortly drive out to see them, have to wait for snow to melt around here. Now I guess our norm is dry camping. Now that we have tried boondocking and then stayed at a forest service campground, we couldn't believe how noisey even the forest service campground could be. Now if only we had thought of this boondocking thing with the 21 footer, the places we could have gotten into... Bill

RE: Cut the Key Federal Funds Rate - Good or Bad?

Actually the rate cut means that my Ing accounts are now going to pay even less. The interest rate paid on those accounts have lowered everytime the fed cuts the rate. This means I earn less money. Granted the Ing accounts still pay far more in interest than my normal bank savings account(I think a coffee can in the backyard pays the same as banks now), but the incentive to save is getting smaller. Rate cut also means that those of us in the market for a newer truck (short term loan) can likely get lower interest rates. Although it is far cheaper to keep the old truck going (it's paid for). Leaves that $465+ payment Skidrowjoe talked about for gas, fun and paying extra down other debts. Bill
